Cheers to the activists who helped nix Michigan’s inhumane goose gassing plan.
Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources announced this week that it’s “Canada Goose Program” was indefinitely put on pause after being pressured by activists and groups, including FoA.
The plan entailed rounding up “nuisance” geese and goslings in portions of the state and gassing them to death. Nuisance geese are identified by residents, a highly subjective process.
Most geese complaints occur during the summertime month when they molt their feathers and are rendered flightless, making goose droppings and molted feathers more abundant.
As FoA said in the fall, Michigan doesn’t have a goose problem; they have a problem with cleaning up after their geese. Goose poop scoopers are effective and, not to mention, a lot easier than rounding up and exterminating these iconic birds.
