Jerryrsquo;s owners released misleading photos claiming Jerry was in good health when the opposite was true. Moreover, questions about Jerryrsquo;s health and insufficient veterinary care are alarming./ppAn investigation is warranted, but meanwhile, Friends of Animals is requesting Salt Lake City officials remove horses from Salt Lake City streets. Horse sanctuaries are available after theyrsquo;re released./ppThere is simply no way to improve the carriage horse industry in an urban environment in the 21st Century. Inherently skittish horses are a constant public safety risk on chaotic city streets.nbsp; Therersquo;s a voluminous list of serious accidents involving collisions with horse-drawn carriages and vehicles, resulting in severe injuries and deaths for people and horses.nbsp; Confining horses daily between the shafts of carriages, forcing them to pull heavy carriages loaded with passengers on city streets among swerving vehicles, constant loud noises, pedestrians, bike-riders and emergency vehicles is a recipe for disaster.nbsp; Horses, naturally skittish animals, flee when frightened. You have the ability to make Salt Lake City a more humane city by removing an antiquated commercial industry that creates a life of misery for horses, while putting others at risk./ppFriends of Animals is eager to advise you further on selecting sanctuaries that can receive the horses. We were instrumental in crafting the legislation currently pending in the New York State Senate to ban horse-drawn carriages in New York City. The bill requires horses to be placed at appropriate sanctuariesmdash;sparing them the fate of a slaughterhouse. Wersquo;ve led the movement to eliminate horse-drawn carriages in urban environments around the country. Salt Lake City should join the growing list of cities that have prohibited horse-drawn carriages from city streets knowing this trade has no place in modern society./pp class=”style4″ style=”margin-top: 0in; background-color: white;”bspan style=”font-size: 14pt;”Take Action Fornbsp;st1:city w:st=”on”st1:place w:st=”on”Salt Lake City/st1:place/st1:citynbsp;Horseso:p/o:p/span/b/pp class=”style4″ style=”margin-top: 0in; background-color: white;”Contact Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker and the City Council and press them to end the dangerous, cruel horse-drawn carriage industry and release each horse to a sanctuary.nbsp;o:p/o:p/pp class=”style4″ style=”margin-top: 0in; background-color: white;”bMayor Ralph Becker:nbsp;/b801-535-7705;nbsp;a href=”mailto:mayor@slcgov.com”mayor@slcgov.com/abo:p/o:p/b/pp class=”style4″ style=”margin-top: 0in; background-color: white;”bCity Councilo:p/o:p/b/pp class=”style4″ style=”margin-top: 0in; background-color: white;”a href=”mailto:kyle.lamalfa@slcgov.com”span style=”color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;”Kyle LaMalfa/span/a, Chairbr /Council Memberspan class=”apple-converted-space”nbsp;/spana href=”http://council.slcgov.com/D2/default.htm”span style=”color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;”District 2/span/abr /801-535-7781;nbsp;a href=”mailto:kyle.lamalfa@slcgov.com”span style=”color:#0000ff;”kyle.lamalfa@slcgov.com/span/abr /br /a href=”mailto:jill.love@slcgov.com”span style=”color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;”Jill Remington Love/span/a, Vice Chairbr /Council Memberspan class=”apple-converted-space”nbsp;/spana href=”http://council.slcgov.com/D5/default.htm”span style=”color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;”District 5/span/abr /801-535-7786;nbsp;a href=”mailto:jill.love@slcgov.com”span style=”color:#0000ff;”jill.love@slcgov.com/span/abr /br /a href=”mailto:carlton.christensen@slcgov.com”span style=”color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;”Carlton Christensen/span/abr /Council Memberspan class=”apple-converted-space”nbsp;/spana href=”http://council.slcgov.com/D1/default.htm”span style=”color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;”District 1/span/abr /801-535-7723;nbsp;a href=”mailto:carlton.christensen@slcgov.com”span style=”color:#0000ff;”carlton.christensen@slcgov.com/span/abr /br /a href=”mailto:stan.penfold@slcgov.com”span style=”color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;”Stan Penfold/span/abr /Council Memberspan class=”apple-converted-space”nbsp;/spana href=”http://council.slcgov.com/D3/default.htm”span style=”color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;”District 3/span/abr /801-535-7726;nbsp;a href=”mailto:stan.penfold@slcgov.com”span style=”color:#0000ff;”span style=”background-color:#ffffff;”stan.penfold@slcgov.com/span/span/abr /br /a href=”mailto:luke.garrott@slcgov.com”span style=”color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;”Luke Garrott/span/abr /Council Memberspan class=”apple-converted-space”nbsp;/spana href=”http://council.slcgov.com/D4/default.htm”span style=”color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;”District 4/span/abr /801-535-7782;nbsp;a href=”mailto:luke.garrott@slcgov.com”span style=”color:#0000ff;”luke.garrott@slcgov.com/span/abr /br /a href=”mailto:charlie.luke@slcgov.com”span style=”color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;”Charlie Luke/span/abr /Council Memberspan class=”apple-converted-space”nbsp;/spana href=”http://council.slcgov.com/D6/default.htm”span style=”color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;”District 6/span/abr /801-535-7784;nbsp;a href=”mailto:charlie.luke@slcgov.com”span style=”color:#0000ff;”charlie.luke@slcgov.com/span/abr /br /a href=”mailto:soren.simonsen@slcgov.com”span style=”color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;”Sspan class=”style2″ΓΈ/spanren Simonsen/span/abr /Council Memberspan class=”apple-converted-space”nbsp;/spana href=”http://council.slcgov.com/D7/default.htm”span style=”color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;”District 7/span/abr /801-535-7715;nbsp;a href=”mailto:soren.simonsen@slcgov.com”soren.simonsen@slcgov.com/ao:p/o:p/pp class=”text” style=”margin: 0in 0in 12pt; background-color: white;”Mainspan class=”apple-converted-space”nbsp;/spana href=”http://council.slcgov.com/pages/contact.htm” target=”_blank”span style=”color: windowtext; text-decoration: none;”Council Officespan class=”apple-converted-space”nbsp;/span/span/aNumberbr /801-535-7600span style=”font-size: 8.5pt; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; color: rgb(68, 68, 68);”o:p/o:p/span/pp class=”text” style=”margin-top: 0in; background-color: white;”span style=”color: rgb(68, 68, 68);”24 Hour Comment Line/spanbr /span style=”color: rgb(68, 68, 68);”801-535-7654/span/p
