pHARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – Bears in Connecticut can breathe easy./p
pA proposal to hunt them down in a lottery is dead./p
pThe state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s draft proposal, aimed at curbing the growing population of bears who often appear in suburban neighborhoods, was never submitted to the state legislature. /p
pThe proposal would have allowed hunters to enter a lottery for about $25. Hunters would have also paid for a permit for about $50 plenty to hunt the bears. /p
pThe proposal drew opposition from animal rights activists who questioned whether the DEEP was impartial in the plan because the agency gets its revenue from, hunting licenses, ammunition. /p
