Priscilla Feral refers to it as “The Occupation.”
She’s talking about the recent six-month period in which control of Primarily Primates Inc. was in the hands of a court-appointed caregiver. A judge placed the animal sanctuary under court control after the state attorney general charged that its managers misspent thousands of dollars in donations while the animals lived in substandard conditions.
In a settlement a month ago, control of the sanctuary was returned to a restructured board of directors. And this week, Feral’s group, the Connecticut-based animals rights group Friends of Animals (FoA), announced it’s merging with the local primate facility and taking over its administrative and fund-raising duties. The move will give Primarily Primates a broader financial base and stronger business structure, Feral said.
