Thumbs up for the editorial, “Christie's callous pro-gun stance” (July 23, 2014), for emphasizing that gun safety issues will help define the state's gubernatorial campaign.
After the massacre in Newtown put a spotlight on gun violence and the NRA's machinations to defeat common sense, Gov. Malloy acted to protect our state's residents, not shore up the ranks of the National Rifle Association, who Gov. Christie apparently thinks should be running the country.
Christie became the NRA's darling ahead of his first gubernatorial election, and he delivered, as promised, a nefarious bear hunt to the state of New Jersey. The blood from that annual carnage is on his hands, and new Jersey's wildlife agency that benefits from hunter license fees. Despite the whims of Connecticut's hunters to repeat New Jersey's bear-shoots, Friends of Animals is not going to tolerate that gun violence here.
