HELENA, Mont. (AP) - A federal appeals court on Thursday denied a request by environmental groups to halt wolf hunts that are scheduled to begin next week in Idaho and Montana.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals denied the request by the Alliance for the Wild Rockies and other groups. The groups were seeking to cancel the hunts while the court considers a challenge to congressional action in April that stripped wolves of federal protections in Montana and Idaho, and in parts of Washington, Oregon and Utah.

Earlier this month, U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy in Missoula reluctantly upheld a budget rider that was inserted by Rep. Mike Simpson, R-Idaho, and Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont. It marked the first time since the passage of the Endangered Species Act in 1973 that Congress forcibly removed protections from a plant or animal.

This is complete insanity! they are really still going to do this??? how stupid can those governors possibly this is there thinking "oh if we kill off the wolf we will help the ecosystem!" itll do the complete opposite! if the wolf disappears, the entire ecosystem will be thrown out of whack!

Again pressure, commercial owners win and wolves lose...Again these Gov. show what pencil heads they are...Will history ever win.........People are the problem, not the animals...Vote them out of office -- that they understand!!

I completely support the preservation of wolves everywhere!!!

These governors are in the farmers' pockets, Obama is in the governors' pockets. Defenders of Wildlife has gone out and shown these farmers different methods of keeping their cattle safe, BUT, it makes them feel like men to hunt down and kill a dog that is only trying to feed his family, even if he's taking down an elk, deer, bison...or if he's not killing anything...just running. These people will meet St.Peter at the Pearly Gates and be sent straight down, which they deserve. If a wolf takes down ONE sheep, it makes headlines, but as Friends of Animals pointed out... http://www.friendsofanimals.org/news/2011/september/51200-dead-oregon-co...
