Dining In Letters

To the Editor:

Re "A Political Punch Line Is Dinner in Alaska," Sept. 17:

Deceased moose aren't necessary for Alaskan dinners. I have visited Alaska often. Plant-based foods abound in restaurants and stores.

Alaska's government - namely Sarah Palin - nevertheless assaults animals systematically through aerial wolf- and bear-killing, artificially inflating the number of moose and caribou for hunters.

The main issue is not need, but defending old habits. Humans have the ability to change, although changing ingrained customs does take effort and profound care. An increasingly unbalanced climate's impact on the northern web of life underscores the importance of such efforts.

Ms. Palin's entry into the international spotlight has brought forth, from many, a resounding call: It's high time we let the bear, moose, and wolves live.

It is okay to kill animals and to keep women from the right to choose? This should be front line material. Why

I just have so many thoughts, I don't know where to start. It makes me so angry, so very sad, and so,so very appalled that it is so easy for her to decide the fate of these beautiful creatures and their young. Is the state getting some kick back from cattle, hog, chicken,... farmers to allow this to happen? There is no resonable explanation for the killing of these animals and their young. Hunting season to me always meant to have a liciense to kill!! and you were hunting for food for the family. I'll quit now, but how do we let more of the public see the that we need to change this injustice!

Susan is right - this should be front line material. Given Palin's national exposure, somebody should be broadcasting this.

Why is the media not covering Sarah Palin's slaughter of wolves and polar bears? Why?

Martha, I've been told it was a non-issue! Hard to believe! They were told to stick with the economy! I told them that it was a very important issue to many! People working for Obama's campaign said they knew all about it and it was just awful.
