Howling Across America to Save Wolves

Like Humans, Wolves Live In Families. Like Humans, Wolves Need Friends.

Wolves display high intelligence, expressiveness, and other characteristics that enable them to maintain sophisticated, family-based social bonds. Without friends defending their rights and interests, the fates of wolves in Alaska, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and most of the Northern Rockies are thrown to hunters, ranchers and federal agents under the "livestock protection" banner.

· Rallies and Boycotts of Idaho, Montana and Wyoming

· Legal Appeal for Wolves

Special announcement: Watch Friends of Animals president Priscilla Feral as a guest of Jane Velez-Mitchell today on CNN's HLN TV (SEE VIDEO), talking about today's DC Rally for Wolves and efforts to halt the killing. To become a friend to help Friends of Animals protect wolves, donate now.

In April 2011, the U.S. Congress slipped a wolf de-listing rider into the federal budget bill, yanking wolves from the Endangered Species List in the Northern Rockies-where it's estimated that just over 1500 wolves remain.

Said Priscilla Feral, president of Friends of Animals: "Removing federal protection and subjecting wolves to more hunting is unconstitutional and unconscionable."

The Rally for Wolves in Washington, DC today to denounce this underhanded de-listing is the first of many rallies in North America.

Members and supporters of Friends of Animals now call for a travel and economic boycott of the states that advocate killing wolves: Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.

"We need to put the economic screws to state governments that persecute wolves at the behest of haters," said Feral.

Tags are already on sale in Montana for the shooting of 225 wolves; more than 1000 tags have been sold in the first few days. In Idaho, the bloodbath is slated to begin this month - on the 30th of August.

Friends of Animals' legal experts are now drafting an amicus brief to buttress an appeal before federal Judge Donald Molloy by Alliance for the Wild Rockies, Friends of the Clearwater and WildEarth Guardians "to preserve both wolves and the rule of law in the Northern Rockies."

Time is of the essence. Support our efforts today. If you can do a Howl-In for your city (international support is welcome), email Dustin Rhodes. Everyone can contact the governors and announce your intent to boycott travel in each state for as long as they continue persecuting wolves:

Leave it to Obama to ruin a population. Write to these 3 governors, Otter-ID (Republican), Schweitzer-MT (Democrat), Mead-WY (Republican) and with the final signature of Obama (Liberal Democrat), to stop the killing of hundreds of wolves. These ranchers already get money from our government when they lose livestock. The answer is not to kill wolves.

I am appalled by the senseless killing of any living creature. Since I do not have the money to travel anywhere, saying I will be boycotting the 3 states by not traveling there is a moot point. What can I do from my home? Boycotting all of each state's exports, such as Idaho's potatoes, punishes the good along with the guilty. I, too, think that every hunter's name and occupation/place of employment should be published somewhere for the world to see, so that each individual can be asked to reconsider his/her future plans for this bloodbath or else HIS/HER products will be boycotted.

I particularly like the comments that facilitate taking action, like Debra's information for contacting Salazar. I'm starting with him. We need to take action. Please keep us up to date.

It makes me sick. I knew Obama was going to be "bad" and he proved me right. I hope everyone that voted for him is happy with him. Hillary was the better candidate! Wolves where here before the ranchers. They are a beautiful animal. Come on people wake up do something!

I can't believe they removed wolves from protection. what does that mean for other animals under protection? are they going to remove the other animals that are under the protected species act from the list? talk about extinction. hearing about the wolves no longer being under protection is so horrible that it sickens me. kill half of the wolf population? what's wrong with people? the wolves have a right to live on this earth just as much as we humans do. once you wipe out the wolves what's next? you're going to find something else to kill and wipe that out until there is nothing left. then you'll build a bunch of concrete buildings and there would no longer be woods or forests to enjoy. "control the population"?... what about human population? humans have overpopulated the earth for many years, so why have you not told everyone how many children they're allowed to have in one household and that exceeding that number would equal higher taxes? because we are supposed to be a free country. let those wolves live! they're a part of nature and nature should be respected and let to live a free happy life like the rest of us.

I wonder how eager the hunters of the defenseless wolves would be if their names were to become public knowledge. Would they be your next door neighbor? maybe someone who teaches our children? quite possibly an elected official? would you have voted for them had you known their feelings on this subject? I know my vote would have been quite different. PLEASE everybody let them know how you feel.

This is incredible...It is just murder...Without wolves we would have never had dogs!!! Please, say no to the killing of innocent animals!

Let's stand together and save these wolves!! They do not deserve to be slaughtered! They just want to be free and left alone to live! Man has taken over their environment, not the other way around. Write to the governors of these states and tell them to Stop the Killing of wolves!!

I live in California and we don't have wolves here but I emailed all three of the governors...We have issues with Bears here, people are so blood thirsty! All I can say is KARMA!

I have just one question? When the man in the oval office tucks his daughters in bed at night does his bedtime story include how he signed a bill to allow the slaughtering of animals in the wild? Glad he wasn't my father. My parents taught me to respect all living creatures. I am appalled. The politicians have been throwing around the words... (which I perceive bordering on blasphemy) What would Jesus think? So maybe they should ask the question to themselves. I am very ashamed at this subculture of mankind. Animals do not kill for pleasure or money.
