Howling Across America to Save Wolves

Like Humans, Wolves Live In Families. Like Humans, Wolves Need Friends.

Wolves display high intelligence, expressiveness, and other characteristics that enable them to maintain sophisticated, family-based social bonds. Without friends defending their rights and interests, the fates of wolves in Alaska, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and most of the Northern Rockies are thrown to hunters, ranchers and federal agents under the "livestock protection" banner.

Friends of Animals: Howling Across America to Save Wolves
· Tonight (Friday): Wolf Advocate Priscilla Feral on HLN's Issues With Jane Velez-Mitchell

· Rallies and Boycotts of Idaho, Montana and Wyoming

· Legal Appeal for Wolves

Special announcement: Watch Friends of Animals president Priscilla Feral as a guest of Jane Velez-Mitchell today on CNN's HLN TV (SEE VIDEO), talking about today's DC Rally for Wolves and efforts to halt the killing. To become a friend to help Friends of Animals protect wolves, donate now.

In April 2011, the U.S. Congress slipped a wolf de-listing rider into the federal budget bill, yanking wolves from the Endangered Species List in the Northern Rockies-where it's estimated that just over 1500 wolves remain.

Said Priscilla Feral, president of Friends of Animals: "Removing federal protection and subjecting wolves to more hunting is unconstitutional and unconscionable."

The Rally for Wolves in Washington, DC today to denounce this underhanded de-listing is the first of many rallies in North America.

Members and supporters of Friends of Animals now call for a travel and economic boycott of the states that advocate killing wolves: Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.

"We need to put the economic screws to state governments that persecute wolves at the behest of haters," said Feral.

Tags are already on sale in Montana for the shooting of 225 wolves; more than 1000 tags have been sold in the first few days. In Idaho, the bloodbath is slated to begin this month - on the 30th of August.

Friends of Animals' legal experts are now drafting an amicus brief to buttress an appeal before federal Judge Donald Molloy by Alliance for the Wild Rockies, Friends of the Clearwater and WildEarth Guardians "to preserve both wolves and the rule of law in the Northern Rockies."

Time is of the essence. Support our efforts today. If you can do a Howl-In for your city (international support is welcome), email Dustin Rhodes. Everyone can contact the governors and announce your intent to boycott travel in each state for as long as they continue persecuting wolves:

DON'T FORGET. THESE ARE THE STATES THAT WE HAVE TO BOYCOTT. HIT THEM WHERE IT HURTS. I MEAN BOYCOTT EVERY THING FROM IDAHO, WYOMING AND MONTANA. WHENEVER YOU BUY ANYTHING..EVEN MEAT...CHECK TO SEE WHERE IT CAME FROM. I AM NOT A MEAT EATER, SO I'M SAFE THERE, BUT POTATOES, POTATO CHIPS...LOOK AT EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU PUT IT IN YOUR GROCERY CART. IF IT IS FROM ONE OF THESE 3 STATE (IDAHO, WYOMING OR MONTANA)..TREAT IT AS POISON. I DON'T THINK I HAVE TO TELL ANYONE..DO NOT MAKE ONE OF THESE 3 YOUR VACATION SPOTS. THIS HAS TO ME A MAJOR BOYCOTT. GOD BLESS YOU ALL. NOTIFY ALL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT THE BOYCOTT AND HAVE THEM SIGN IF THEY WILL.

Is not fair kill innocent wolves! them deserve respect to for part of "humans" that act like monsters :S JUSTICE FOR ANIMALS!

Everyone; I am working with Dustin Garrett Rhodes, Capital Correspondent of Friends of Animals. We will be organizing a mass fundraising to help support Friends of Animals and their attempts to re-list wolves on the Endangered Spieces List in the Northern Rockies. Heather Clemente

Maybe shaming the governor will help plead the case of the wolves. Mr. Governor of Idaho what will you say one day when your Grandchild or Grandchildren happen to see a picture of a wolf and ask you "Grandpa what is this is it a dog"? And you say "no it is a wolf". And Grandchild ask "why haven't I ever seen one". You Mr. Governor answer well they aren't around anymore because "I allowed hunters and myself to shoot and kill all of the wolves". Grandchild asks "why did you do that Grandpa"? Well I was Governor of Idaho and it would make me more money in my pocket to support the cattle ranchers, so I allowed these people to kill all of the wolves. "Grandpa you are bad"!!!!!! Mr. Governor if you won't save the wolves because all of us animal lovers are asking you not to kill these beautiful animals do it so you won't be a bad Grandpa to your Grandchildren

Please help these precious Wolves,They do not attack unless provoked, they have people in Plains flying as low as possible shooting the wolves torturing them leaving them helpless and in agony while shot many times! The wolves need to be here to keep our Balance with earth.Or we will be no more.We will be over run by rats, rabbit's,elk, deer, all kinds of wildlife and then disease of people.Would you like your children to live in all kinds of diseases from killing off the rest of the wolves. They only kill what they eat no more to feed their young and their pack.Don't you need to eat and your children.I can show you Videos of Sara Palin and many other's in a airplane shooting Gods creation leaving them in agony, screaming in pain.Sir all animal's have a soul, feelings. The wolves need to be put back on the endangered list all over the world.Your hurting our world worse by killing them and taking them off the endangered list and hurting your children along with the world. As I said all kinds of wildlife will be over run and then all kinds of disease will take place.I have many video's I can prove where they poach for their fur, teeth,Trophy hunter's.Please Sir if you will send this to the right people in order to help all wolves around the world would be greatly appreciated. Lets use our heads about this matter its very serious to our world and our children and people. The wolves are greatly misunderstood they wont attack without feeling threatened or attacked.Wouldn't you. They have a soul,Gods creation, why do you think God created them as I said above that's why.I pleading for your help as many are. Please send this to the right people who will do something, take action and not turn away.We need to be their voice its being taken away. Thank You so very much for your time. Please feel compassion in your heart for Gods beautiful creation, that they are put here not to kill, poach for fur,or Trophy's,Let them have their freedom as they all deserve to have. All the Ranchers could work with them by protecting their livestock,Its that simple. Or is it easy for them just to kill and be murder's of what God created.Thank you for taking time to hear me hear what is really going on.Sherrill Atherton. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: 10 REASONS WHY WOLVES SHOULD BE HERE! – Assigned Message ID:344645 Dear SHERRILL, Thank you for contacting NPR's Morning Edition. A 2001 study (PDF) found that when wolves went extinct in Yellowstone, for example, the moose population ballooned to five times its normal size and demolished woody vegetation where birds nested. As a result, several bird species were eliminated in the park. Reason 2: Scavengers thrive when wolves are around. The species that help themselves to wolves' leftovers include (PDF) ravens, magpies, wolverines, bald eagles, golden eagles, three weasel species, mink, lynx, cougar, grizzly bear, chickadees, masked shrew, great gray owl, and more than 445 species of beetle. Reason 3: Wolf kills are also good for the soil. A 2009 study in Michigan's Isle Royale National Park found that wolf-killed elk carcasses dramatically enhanced levels of nitrogen and other nutrients. Reason 4: Wolf kills feed more animals than hunting by humans, since wolves scatter their carrion over the landscape. Wolf kills benefit (PDF) three times more species than human hunting kills. The carcass above was a bull elk killed by a pack of eight wolves in Agate Creek, Yellowstone. The skeleton was picked clean by wolves and scavengers in less than five days. Reason 5: When wolves disappeared from Yellowstone, coyotes preyed on pronghorn almost to the point of no return. But since wolves have returned, the pronghorn have come back. In fact, pronghorns tend to give birth near wolf dens, since coyotes steer clear of those areas. Reason 6: Deer and elk congregate in smaller groups (PDF) when wolves are around. This helps reduce the transmission of illnesses like Chronic Wasting Disease. Reason 7: Chronic Wasting Disease is a major threat to elk and deer in the West. Wolves can help by reducing sick animals' lifespans, in turn limiting the amount of time they can spread infections. Reason 8: Yellowstone elk are less likely to overgraze near rivers and streams—damaging fragile ecosystems—when wolves are in the neighborhood. Reason 9: Wolves help protect against climate change. A 2005 UC Berkeley study in Yellowstone concluded that milder winters, a product of climate change, have led to fewer elk deaths. This left scavengers like coyotes and ravens scrambling for food, but the problem was far less pervasive in areas where wolves were around to hunt elk. Reason 10: Wolf tourism is an economic boon (PDF). Restoration of wolves in Yellowstone has cost about $30 million, but it's brought in $35.5 million annual net benefit to the area surrounding the park.

I would like to say I sent an email to each GOV and they were not delivered. I can not read the reason why. This is so unfair for the American people to have them run our lives for us. They have put us so far in debt that some of us can not make it to live on. Now instead of fixing that they want to take our wolves from us. They are a living thing and GOD put them here just like he did them and their family. They are some people pets. Lay off the wolves they not bothering you and with all the money you get pay the debt off so we all may be ever to live. Too bad we can't live high on the hog like all of you as money does talk, then you would not be bothering the wolves as we would out number you with the money. [Editors' note: We double-checked the e-mail addresses we provided on the blog, and from our end they're working. Do try again and/or call their phone number to register your complaints. Where is your human compassion? You are so eager to kill, you slip a sneaky rider into the budget bill. Wolves have nothing to do with the budget bill. Shame on you for allowing this slaughter!!! Pups in their dens? Pregnant females? Trapping wolves after the shooting "limit" has been reached? Shoot on sight? Why do you need them to become extinct? Have you not seen land that is not supported by predators? The trees, water, everything, is affected. We need these wolves to be given federal protection. Please do not let this happen. Chris Splichal

hundreds of American wolves are going to be murdered due to budget issues and other idiotic reasons? Wolves may attack and harm humans, but do they know any better? Its in their nature learn and know survival tactics. How are we to harm and remove theses beautiful creatures. Others judgements and fear that portrait these animals that mother nature intended on being here. They have no fault. All they know is how to survive and live. On the topic of budgets... i don't see how certain states are supporting illegal immigrants in the United States (home of the Free)(???) yet we can not support and provided to innocent creatures who were here long before our time… i believe this is their land as much as it is ours. people say they are monsters… are they? are humans monsters also? look around in today's society; Assault · Battery False imprisonment · Kidnapping Mayhem · Sexual assault... Who are the monsters now? Wolves do not deserve to be killed for being in there natural habitat. I believe if they proceed on killing them other states will follow through… and then where does that leave them…

I am so OUTRAGED by the killing of these innocent wolves. I did have a trip planned to go to Wyoming. I am now going to cancel that trip if they do not stop this in Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. I will not spend any money that will benefit any of these states, and I will put the word out there to people I know. SHAME ON YOU....AND YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!

I think it is appalling that our PRESIDENT would allow such a thing to happen by putting a clause in a bill that allow the slaughter of wolves just for ranchers. Those ranchers just look for ways to kill. When they allowed this same thing back in 1940 in Yosemite it almost destroyed the eco system and other animals and people. With all the problems in the world it would seem the so called people running this country could concentrate on more important things. If you ever took the time to know about wolves, be around them and give them the space for them and all other animals to live in peace they might just learn something. WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT TO KILL, KILL, KILL. MAYBE THAT IS WHY WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN TO KILL IS THE REASON THERE IS SO MUCH CRIME. GOD DOES NOT MAKE JUNK. JUST POLITICIANS WITH DOLLAR SIGNS AND POWER IN THERE EYES. SHAME ON YOU, TEACH OUR CHILDREN TO BE KIND AND LEARN AND APPRECIATE THE WORLD AROUND US.
