On Thursday, March 15th, from Noon to 2 p.m., Friends of Animals will host a NYC rally in Midtown Manhattan, at the door of the Canadian Consulate General's Office. Advocates worldwide are gathering this day, alerting their cities that the world's largest commercial seal kill is planned to start up again this spring on the ice floes off Newfoundland's coast. In New York, advocates will gather to at 50th St. & 6th Avenue, (1251 Avenue of the Americas), to demand that Canadian Consulate General Daniel Sullivan and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper call for an immediate end to the slaughter of seals and instead come up with a real economic solution to the financial issues that coastal Canadian residents face.

Posters and informative flyers will be provided for attendees to hand out, and signatures will be gathered on public petitions.

Hi there: As you may or may not be aware here In Canada we have the yearly seal hunt that takes place which to me Is very Inhumane as well as uncalled for, all this In the name of money, many others feel this way as well, I currently have a petition In circulation that will be ongoing Indefinitetly. [Blog editors' note : Petitions don't accomplish much when they're aimed at politicians. It's individual appeals from Canadians to their elected government officials that carry weight. Opposition to the seal slaughter now underway should be expressed directly and unequivocally. People outside Canada should pledge a travel boycott, and, of course, shun all fur.]

i have seen pictures of the seal slaughter and it is very inhumane i almost cried when i saw the pictures. i hope someone goes forth and makes it illegal for the slaughter to take place.
